Hidden beneath the red sands of Konrath was a once mighty city. As fate would have it, the city was not to end, but was preserved. This might city has appeared in many deserts across the universes, and the time would come for each to come and go. Above this once mighty city was a dome that held the sands back and kept the inhabitants in a slumber until recently, when a bridge was established between it and the outside world.

This city was a holy place for the Fireknaughts to continue their plans to fulfill a prophecy. While the Fireknaughts. There were many things that made the Fireknaught belief unique. The craftsmanship of the structures within the dome that was to fulfill the prophecy definitely fit the scene with tall structures forged from Mithril. At one time, for some reason, this city was known for its walls that no longer existed, famously known as the "Iron Wall of Vauc'Berheemius". Vauc'Berheemius Artifact_movie_013

A.) No god should will intervene in a mortal's life. They created us and our kingdom in the heavens depends on us here.

B.) Everything you do is by your power. No god will give you strength or save you. Remember, you stop the blade, not your god.

C.) It is okay to follow the ideology of your deity, but what you do should be because it is your choice or what another mortal would do.

D.) Should a god step into mortal realms, they are to be killed. This is our realm, not theirs. We serve them when we pass.

E.) Everything a person does should be to protect and prosper. No one mortal can save the world. As a Fireknaught, we must remember; United we stand, divided we conquer.

As you can see, the Fireknaughts do believe in gods, but they do not worship them as others would. They are a creator, and that is it. They serve them when they die, but in this world it is their works that shape the world, not their gods. Thanking a god for anything but creating you is looked down upon as weakness.

"No god commands us and no god is worth worrying about. Gods don't do anything, they have gave us life and it is our choice what we make of it. So yes, we are out to free people. When the world believes in itself and not a god, it will see peace. Ra never saved me from my enemies weapon, whatever armor was between me and the weapon did. Government is there to protect people, and in truth, peace does not come without war. You can expect that what we want is for the betterment of everyone, not just ourselves. " The Fireknaught spoke.

Those were the words heard as the Fireknaughts stepped out behind the man. In front of the small group was a series of steps with platforms beside them that supported Fireknaught warriors with capes bearing The Phoenix State flag  The Harlem pants were made of white bear fur. The rest of the uniform was similar to the one escorting Jaochim.

"You are on your own from here. I suggest moving quickly and not looking these warriors in the eyes.." The Fireknaught spoke before him and what came with stepped back through the portal and it closed off.

Jaochim was now by himself and knew what to do. He could attempt to flee, but he would find no escape from the city easy. The hot and stagnant air that filled the  hidden city would probably make him want to move with haste.

Joachim disagreed with the man who'd lead him here, God's not worth worrying about? That hardly fell into line with his own teachings and experiences. However this wasn't something that they needed to know about. The wyrms disastrous progress was halted by his own people's work. By not giving them power, but knowing how to block their advances, and keeping their attention upon a single group of people his kind had effectively made martyrs of themselves. But this was not the time to discuss faith, this was the time to learn and to see just what these people wanted. Looking at the new place he was in, he was immediately uncomfortable, not because of the heat or the stagnant air, but the fact that his body told him he was under ground out of the glare of the sun. He turned to try and go back but found the portal he had taken had closed. Too late to do anything but go forward.

He moved forward with a guarded stance, ready to draw blade in case this turned into a trap. Not that he could easily get out of here, but it was a possibility. He had been one of the captains of the guard back home, and he had been damn good at holding the line. Without his battle brothers though, he was a lone skirmisher with a finite ability to act. Though he could not open up a magical cue on his body, he kept his right hand at chest height, clenched into a fist and parallel to the ground. He could feel his body realigning his own energies to open up what little mystical ability he was capable of from the teachings of shadow beings.

As he walked he never met a warriors eye's and kept his eye sight straight ahead, but he did send out his senses in a way that would attune him to his races natural part of the planar realm, essentially sensing entropy and death in the area. If their were crumbling spots in the landscape he would be aware of it, and if the buildings in here were in danger of collapse it would essentially ping on his mental radar. Kind of a secondary trap sense to his usual caution.

No harm would come to Jaochim was he moved forward and everything seemed fine outside of the cursed feeling cast by this place. As Jaochim drew closer to the top, he would notice a small room with a wall cut out. Inside this open room that looked down the steps, was two thrones; one empty and one with someone in it. Between the thrones was a Phoenix statue with a translucent black flame.

The figure that sat in the throne was crafted of a red flame in the shape of a elfin male. The being stuck his right arm out towards the other throne, offering Jaochim a seat. When Jaochim took his seat, the fiery being turned into a being cloaked in bright red and black cloths and armor plating. Over his face was an iron mask that looked like a skull, hiding everything but the beings deep blue eyes.

If Jaochim took a seat, a peaceful sensation, one that made him feel like he was in a paradise. He would cool down and the air was clean, everything 'felt' right. What he seen was different, what he seen was a once mighty city that was crafted on magical technology far beyond its years. The red clouds of sand and stagnant air could be seen maneuvering through the city like it was alive. Where the red clouds didn't exist, Jaochim would be able to see the people struggling to survive, lining up at corner food supply points(soup kitchens). Not all got to eat due to the short supply of food they can get. The roads were completely ruined and the small homes throughout the city were fractured, ready to fall apart at any time.

"Do you see this city? It is pitiful that the gods would do this to anyone... To do their bidding and become cursed to this place, to be rewarded death for loyalty. Traveler, would you ever punish your children for doing as you say?", a deep, smooth voice rang from behind the iron mask.

Joachim walked through and found the throne room. Looking to the iron masked being he would nod a greeting, and as instructed would seat himself upon the throne next to him. Whatever magics took hold on him and showed him the view of this city in it's prime, or close to it. It was an interesting trick of magic to be sure, however Joachim had seen visions like this before. He had been at deaths door before, but these things were not new to him. Visions were a deep rooted part of his culture, and they held significant meaning. Sometimes they showed the past to teach others, sometimes they showed possible futures as warnings or rays of hope. He was not of this city, of this culture more advanced than he could rightly dream in his wildest fantasies. He tried to take it all in stride and hide the surprise on his face, he was unsuccessful. Such wonders, what could a black smith of his caliber do with such things?

When he was asked a question he waited to respond mulling over his answer before he would nod his head probably to the displeasure of the occupant who had asked him the question. "I would, but the circumstances would have to be particular. My people live by two laws you see. Don't be stupid, don't get caught. They're interchangeable laws. If you were stupid enough to get caught and I told my child to kill someone, then you deserved what came to you. However we do not obey gods or serve their will. So I suppose that the metaphor falls apart, because who can know the will of a god besides gods themselves. I have seen it in muses as well as the golden dragons, their words are as the sands of the Semtis homeland, stable while you walk their path but when you look closer they are as grains sifted through hands."

He waited trying to watch the beings expression as he spoke, even little ticks such as a shift of the shoulders or head. He sighed before speaking again. "I am fated, in vyrose this gave us the ability to die and return through circles of power. Fated beings are pulled towards conflict always. So tell me masked one. What conflict awaits you and your kind? Do you wage war upon this troubled realm with it's beings from beyond the stars? Do you seek asylum with the owners of these sands? How can I assist assuming your cause is noble, or your coin heavy enough to forsake my morals?"

"It was a marvelous place, even you can see. We never sought war, but it was always present and the Phoenixian race was the worlds most structured and peaceable people you could ever meet. The world looked to us as a light in the darkness of the universe. This world is young and it has suffered a lot..." The being spoke back.

His body made no movement, not even a twitch. The figure sat in his throne like a sculpture as he looked across the lands while taking in Jaochim's words. No matter Jaochim's response, and unless he could do something to raise his city he would remain still.

"We want to see the Sun light... We want to fill our bellies... we want to be free and stand as the proud people we once were. We want peace to fill the world and the kings who wage war for gods or bloodlust, we want them to pay for the torment they have placed on this world. What I ask for is for my people, and what I request is your help to raise this land from the depths of the planet and create a light that will cast Freedom, Justice, and Properity. The wealth you seek will come with it, more wealth than one kingdom could ever pay.

Your simple rules are good, but is that what you want your future to always be? Wouldn't it be nice to wake in comfort and safety, not having to worry if someone is going to do something they might get caught doing? Why let fate control you when you have a choice and can change your world, even if this better world is only one city that strives to provide a light for the hopeless to gain hope?"

Vann suddenly found himself in another realm, and was not happy. He was not happy at all. He considered fighting, using his blade. He was not "half-bad" with it after all, and there was far more to him than a sword. Hell that was just a hobby to him. Regardless he stayed his hand.

"This is what I get for playing your game..." he said. He did not like this, but being "left alone" was actually something of a relief to him. "This is bullshit..." he sighed as he went up the steps. He was not particularly intimidated by the warriors, despite his lithe build. If he had reason too, he would address the warriors, but if he was left to his own devices he would simply move to see what all the fuss and cloak and dagger was about.

He let go of the pommel of his blade as he continued forward, and seemed to find the source of all this. Or at least the one in charge. His masked visage was impassive before the male before him, the dark flickering of the shadow-fire reflecting off the face of his helm. He waited impassively.

"I'm sorry I would rather stand... No offense meant, but I have no idea where I am or who you are... " he said. He was already in a potentially bad situation, a situation he could not fully control. He did not wish to put himself any deeper in the "whole" his perception of the "flows" of causality where all he had to rely upon here.

As the man spoke of the injustice of the gods Vann suppressed the urge to snort. "I have never met a real deity, only self-proclaimed ones... God did not do this to you, merely beings that took advantage of their power." he said turning to the male. Vann knew a bit about this sort of things, his own people at their highest level had established themselves as "deities" though this had eventually bitten them in the ass. He never had the urge to make such claims. He was just someone with advantages over other beings.

Both masked beings stood impassive against the ruination that had befallen the Pheonix-State. "What have you brought me here for?" he asked.

"Any man who claims to be a deity or god, is a false hope. They prey upon the weak to follow their power, and in the end, what do the meek get? Nothing but loss... With all my power and the powers of my family, we were overtaken by the wishes of one being... What you see before you is an example of what happens when something with great power is scared... We followed them to the depths of Hell and the Gates of Heaven, only to be betrayed and cast into this Hell within this planet... While you may say there is no god, there is, and they're scared... just look at what has happened on your surface and the losses at hand or that will be at hand... While I fear no being, deity, god, or anything, I respect the power and the curse they can cast on the mortals...

When you ask why I brought you here, I did not bring you here. Your spirit guided you here, why else would you have randomly entered a building with nothing but a flapping cloth hanging over it Eye(doorway)? So you must ask yourself, what is that you want in life that allowed the spirit to push yourself through that Eye? What I HOPE for, is that you want more from life and that you could help me raise my lands from these depths... that you could stand as a brother and fight off the evils that plague the land and push these blasphemers that call themselves gods into another dimension so that our planet can prosper... While certain powers walk this realm, not man can be safe or free, we can only receive the illusion of such..."

The man went quiet after that, starring into the depths of the red clouded city while waiting on Vann's answer. Through it all, the tone of caring and sincerity could be heard and felt in every word the masked being spoke. There was nothing bad to happen to Vann here, and he hoped the man would understand that; but his resistance to sit and fear of what could be is what the masked man was glad to see, as he knew these two things meant he bowed to nobody and carried the will of the mortal deep within himself.

(Sorry for long wait, have had some personal/internet issues lately.)

Vanns eyes narrowed at the mans words, though such a thing would be obscured by the mask. Nothing betrayed his opinion on the mans words at the moment, save for a slight tightening of his body. The whole thing still smelled funny. If he said no outright there was nothing to stop them from attacking him or imprisoning him. He was on unfamiliar ground, and though not exactly "lured" here, he had come knowing full well it was a risky endeavor to enter a portal at the behest of strange people. And the man to him spoke with the conviction of a fanatic.

"I don't believe in destiny." he finally said after the other finished. "I was lead to your building by curiosity, and the fact there were others there... Nothing more or nothing less... Perhaps you believe what you say, but I can tell when someone is trying to con me... Don't tell me I was 'special' or 'chosen' to come to you. No disrespect meant, but we both know you were looking for someone... Perhaps anyone to help you." he said as he looked at the man before him.

"Now... Lets talk business, what will I get out of this?"

"Your life is what you make it, it is part of our design as mortals. Your mind, my mind, their minds; all mortal minds contain an emptiness most are unable to fill and these gods take over it, manipulating the power the universe has given us to protect our freewill. Many do not perceive the idea of why angels were cast from the heavens despite reading that the gods considered freewill a rebellious ideology and banished us... had it not been for the mortal realms, we would all be in an absolute servitude.

I will admit, this part of the mind that is empty, can also be controlled by mortals with psychic abilities..." He spoke, turning to face Vann at the end of his brief explanation and then back across the land.

You are capable of war and peace. You will be able to rest at night knowing that you are safe from any god and their extreme ideology and superiority complex over others. Raising these people from their depths will give them an eternal gratitude to you. So I must ask, is it the power  and wealth or knowledge and wisdom, that you seek? " The masked man spoke, never turning his head towards Vann as he mentally questioned the questions he asked Vann, essentially wanting to know what Vann wanted before making and comment on what he would receive.
